Day #2: Kulai (Pork Mee Hoon Soup and Beef Mee Hoon Soup)

Warning! Sorry, this is a NON-HALAL post!

Mok Gao Old shop

Here comes the second part of the Kulai journey. It's time for breakfast! We went to this shop (Mok Gao - Hainam language) to have our breakfast the second day. They served pork or beef with either mee, mee hoon or kueh tiao. You can have them cook in soup or dried. However, this shop is quite famous for local people and they go there for breakfast as early as 5AM. According to the local, after 8AM or 8.30AM, they have only mee hoon soup left, served with either pork or beef. Normally, people prefer beef because they said it tastes better. However, I ordered a pork mee hoon soup since I am a Buddhist. Some of my friends ordered beef mee hoon soup.

Pork Mee Hoon Soup Beef Mee Hoon Soup

According to the local again, they prepare the pork in front of the shop, as can be seen at the first two pictures in this post but prepare the beef at the back of the shop but don't worry, it is not illegal or "black heart" beef but it's simply because they are Buddhist. Blue bowl indicates pork and orange bowl indicates the beef. The taste is nice, with a mixture of pork and pork liver. For the beef, it has beef and some other intestines stuffs which I don't know. By the way, PLEASE DO NOT ORDER TEH-O-PENG BECAUSE UP-TO-DATE, IT IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE IN MALAYSIA, RM1.40! I am not sure if the guy calculated wrongly but my friend mentioned to him twice and it is RM1.40, more expensive than Milo which is RM1.30 if not mistaken. Besides, the tea is sour without lime or lemon.

Road entranceEnd of the road

The location of the shop is quite difficult to find. It is just a narrow one-way road only. There is an old coffee shop at the road entrance and the shop is at the end of the road. Suppose, the name of the shop is Mok Gao, the name of the owner in Hailam dialect. But I managed to get the GPS coordinate for this stall. If you ask me, it is recommended to try but I think it's better to have a local folk of Kulai to bring you there because Kulai is like a treasure hunt, good stuffs are hard to find and only local knows well!
