Ais Tingkap (Window Sherbet) @ Tamil Street, Penang

Again! Today, the sun is getting nearer to Penang. Very hot! If you see me shouting "HOT", it means in the next few days, I am going to hunt for something cooling. Yesterday, I had this cooling coconut drink at Abu Siti Lane. Today, the weather still does not cool off, so I am going for this Ais Tingkap (Window Sherbet) at Tamil Street, Penang, next to Chowrasta Market. I was having a hard time to look for this stall due to traffic jam and it is located at a small street called Tamil Street. I guess most of the people do not know this place, so I decided to share it out here.

"Ais" means ice in Malay language and "Tingkap" means window, so literally, it means window ice, but the owner named it as Window Sherbet. The reason it was called Window Sherbet because in the past, it was sold through the window, I guess drive-thru type. It is quite difficult to see the stall from the main road (Penang Road). However, if you know the Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul, it is just next to the street selling the chendul.

It tastes really nice. The red color is due to rose syrup. And the black seedy stuff is actually frog egg. Nah, just kidding! The black seedy thing is basil seeds. And the white slice is coconut flesh. Besides that, they added in a lot of ingredients to make this drink but I am not sure what are those things. But I assure you that, you have no regret trying this.

If you wish to try this out, if you want to go by foot, let's say, you are at the Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul, facing the Penang Road or the police station, just turn to your right and at the first street you see, turn right and walk further a bit down the street, the stall is at your right side. If you wish to go by car, from Penang Road, turn left into Chowrasta Street and drive till the end of the street, turn right and when you see the first street you turn right, turn right again into Tamil Street and you will see the stall on your left. But driving there is difficult due to limited parking spaces and the road is very narrow.
