Thean Hou Gong (天后宫)

During the first day Chinese New Year, my sister and I drove to Thean Hou Gong (天后宫), one of the famous temples in Kuala Lumpur. It took us around 30 - 40 minutes to arrive at there by car from Bukit Bintang area because there was a traffic jam at Chow Kit Road. This temple is located near the Mid Valley. There is a website for this temple: Thean Hou Gong

The road going up the temple (~500m) is steep. For those who wants to visit the temple during festival time, make sure your car is in good condition as you can handle your car in steep road during traffic jam. Some people parked their cars at the building down the hill and walked up.

As far as I know but not sure, the parking area near the temple is free during normal time but you have to pay RM3 per entry during Chinese New Year. The money will be used for the donation to the temple building fund.

Once you arrived at the temple, you can see the decoration from the World Expo for China and Malaysia (1Malaysia) as well.

Below are some of the pictures that were taken when I was there. During CNY, there are a lot of people queuing inside the main prayer hall to "求签". There are a lot of sticks inside a pot. With both hands, you pull up the sticks, ask the Goddess your question and release the bundle of sticks. If the Goddess answers your question, one of the sticks will pop up and will be higher than the rest. Then, that will be 签 and you can get the paper with the correct number and analyze yourself. Somehow I did not take the picture of it.

Besides that, you can pray for good wealth throughout the year. You can donate RM5, pray for good wealth and take back one gold ingot on the table and put it in the your favourite place in your house. This includes if you are praying for good education and good marriage.

Happy Chinese New Year!
